The Illust Are: videos

Sunset effects in Photoshop
Nothing too special here, bascially it's how to take an existing photo and spruce it up, but the technique on how to get sun flares, and some other things are pretty right on.

Gallery of Illustrated Book Endpapers
Before book endpapers were blank, they used to have thematic illustrations, check it out.

Artblog of juvenile lifers in prison

Vintage ads featuring OJ
For some reason OJ sports a booted third leg. Strange, weird, awesome, and now, just a tiny bit sad.

15 examples of great web typography
After being linked to from Digg, this post crashed ILT's server. Excellent type, and well-written analysis.

Collection of old magazine scans
Guy publishes an archive of old magazine scans, nice nice.

Beehive in bell jar
Amazing slideshow of someone who put a bell jar on top of hole in a beehive, bees build hive within the belljar, instant honey!

Tea-bag art
"Join the group in four easy steps:

1. Drop a bag of tea on an index card
2. Allow to dry
3. Finish drawing
4. Scan and share on Flickr
4. Drink tea

The above “leg warmers” image is by Flickr user, Dave Gray."

This video is so awesome, it got loaded twice into the same clip. Drawn stop-motion animation using walls as the animating surface, so sweet.

The Saturday Are

City of Toothpicks
Ridonkulously huge model city made entirely out of toothpicks. Someone has got WAY too much time on their hands.

The Naked Body Zodiac
Like NSFW and stuff. But who doesn't like fine art painted on bodies? Don't tell me you, cause I know you're lying.

Mozart's "Lick me in my Ass"
Not really related to art or design, but really, you can't go wrong singing this to your significant other, especially in the original German. And yes, it is real, Mozart actually did compose a song about getting his salad tossed.

Drawn haiku's
as Drawn puts it:
"Submit ideas.
An illustration is made
And a haiku too.">

Art Deco blog
One of the Illust's favorite new (to us) blogs Art Deco uploads stuff from the Art Deco era, too awesome.

A Soviet Poster a Day
Maybe the only thing that beats Art Deco is Soviet Era propaganda, one a day with excellent commentary. These last two blogs are definitely worth putting in your daily sites.

The Real Costs
"Real Costs is a Firefox plug-in that inserts emissions data into travel related e-commerce websites. The first version adds CO2 emissions information to airfare websites such as Orbitz.com, United.com, Delta.com, etc. Following versions will work with car directions, car rental, and shipping websites. Think of it like the nutritional information labeling on the back of food... except for emissions. "
(See also The Oil Standard which works much the same way escept displays prices as oil costs.
