Girls, girls, girls...

When I haven't been doing IT work this summer, continuing a tradition of picking up side jobs cause I "know computers and junk", or freelancing logo work, I've been putting in some work. Not as much as I've hoped, but some studies here and there, alongside these: (first: W/C, second: inks, both on vellum)

and this one was from earlier this summer ("Tasty Beverages"):

I went to Otis a couple weeks ago and talked to Nathan, JT, Daniel, JAW Cooper, Evan, and Julian. They were doing their big summer painting extraveganza, and while they tried to convince me to come join them to paint, biking to Otis during summer = not happening. But just seeing them work, got a little needle in my brain. I realized that I had an old large silkscreen that I had found, and I really wanted to throw paint around instead of just details, and after looking through my sketchbooks, eventually this came about.

in progress, "They hide in her curls" :

man, it feels good to be working in oils again. I love working in inks, but just going for it in oils is a nice change of pace. you can see my notes to myself on what to rework in the last picture. I started doing that on my inks, around my tapedown, keeps me focused and from forgetting, because i'll always forget something i meant to do.

One thing I didn't really do is glaze the oils. I'm kind of hoping that given the transperant nature of the screen, that light will come through/reflect, giving it a nice luminous...ness, but I don't know if it'll work. still fun to just throw paint.
